4. Temple of haven

The Temple of Heaven, literally the Altar of Heaven is a complex of Taoist buildings situated in southeastern urban Beijing; Construction of the complex began in 1420, and was thereafter visited by all subsequent Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is regarded as the Taoist temples, although the worship of Heaven, especially by the reigning monarch of the day, pre-dates Taoism.

The Temple of Heaven was registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998.

It is said that if you stand at the centre of the platform and clap your hands, you can hear the echo because of the concavity of the surrounding wall.

The House of Heavenly Lord is surrounded by a curved wall, 6 meters tall and 32.5 meters in radius. The wall has one opening. It is nicknamed the 'Echo Wall' because a person at one end of the wall (one side of the opening) can hear the voice of a person at the other end of the wall (the other side of the opening).

The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests was built without a single nail.

5. Beijing Summer Palace

The Summer Palace is located on the western edge of Beijing, 12km from central Beijing. As its name implies, the Summer Palace was used as a summer residence by China's imperial rulers - as a retreat from the main imperial palace now known as the 'Forbidden City') - a pleasure ground in the countryside, yet near to the city.

The Summer Palace is virtually a museum of traditional Chinese gardening that uses rocks, plants, pavilions, ponds, cobble paths and other garden styles to create a poetic effect between different scenes. When you stroll around the Summer Palace, you will constantly find the area changing.

The Summer Palace is a monument to classical Chinese architecture, in terms of both garden design and construction. In December 1998, UNESCO included the Summer Palace on its World Heritage List with the following comments:

1) The Summer Palace in Beijing is an outstanding expression of the creative art of Chinese landscape garden design, incorporating the works of humankind and nature in a harmonious whole;

2) The Summer Palace epitomizes the philosophy and practice of Chinese garden design, which played a key role in the development of this cultural form throughout the east;

3) The imperial Chinese garden, illustrated by the Summer Palace, is a potent symbol of one of the major world civilizations

6. Beijing Lama Temple

Lama Temple Beijing (Yonghegong), a renowned lama temple of the Yellow Hat Sect of Lamaism, is situated in the northeast part of Beijing city. Lama Temple features five large halls and five courtyards with beautifully decorative archways, upturned eaves and carved details. It houses a treasury of Buddhist art, including sculptured images of gods, demons and Buddhas, as well as Tibetan-style murals.

After Yongzheng's death in 1735, his coffin was placed in the temple. Emperor Qianlong, his successor, upgraded Yonghegong to an imperial palace with its turquoise tiles replaced by yellow tiles (yellow was the imperial color in the Qing Dynasty). During the 9th year of Emperor Qian Long's reign (1744), it was converted into a lamasery and became a residence for large numbers of monks from Mongolia and Tibet.This is a kind of friendly policy that the Qing dynasty deals with the relation with Mongolia and Tibet. That is the reason why the Great Wall was not massive constructed during the Qing dynasty.

14. Enjoy excited Shopping in Beijing:

We will not let you leave without satisfied shopping, we will give you chance to shop in the shopping center and cheapest shopping mall in Beijing. Wangfujing street and its surroundings have quite a selection of shopping options.  There are two western style, modern malls.  One has an English name written on it saying "Sun Dong An", which is confusing because its Chinese name is "Xin Dong An".  This one is the older of the two, situated on the center crossroads of Wangfujing street, 12 minutes walk north of the subway station.  It has 6 floors of shops and some pretty glass elevators.  Here you can find fashion stores, souvenirs, cafes and restaurants, a cinema and a built-in large department store with some reasonably priced high-quality electronics.

15. Fantastic Beijing night life in Hou Hai

This used to be the place to be if you wanted to go to a bar.  Many many bars, most open till 4am or later.  They all have that certain Beijing feel.  Frequented by many foreign customers so you will not feel too out of place

This place seems to be taking over from Sanlitun as the major bar area of Beijing.  It is situated around a man-made lake at the north of Beihai Park.  Boating is available on the lake till 11pm or 12am (in the summer of course).  Very pretty area.
